Is Their Any Way That a Cat and a Dog Can Get Along?

Dogs and Cats Friendly Canine and Felines

In the animal kingdom, there are a series of arch rivals including the cat and mouse as well as cats and dogs. Anywhere you look you see this concept whether it is online, in the movies, in a comic strip or even on the television. Because of these, it is easy for one to make the assumption that cats and dogs just cannot live together in the same home; but you know what they say about assumptions.

The truth of the matter is that cats and dogs can coexist in the same household. There may be some territorial disputes at first depending on the age of the animals. It is not uncommon for a pet owner who has had a cat living in a home for years and brings home a dog, for the cat to take swipes at the dog. The same is true when the dog is in its home territory.

The easiest way to overcome this obstacle though, is by introducing a kitten to an older established dog. While the older cats are already predisposed to hate dogs, the younger cats can be trained to get along simply by sharing the same house. Unfortunately they will not just simply run up to each other and immediately fall in love, but they will eventually get along with each other.

Kitten hissing fit

When you first introduce a young kitten to a home with a dog, sure there will be some hissing and spitting going on. This is of course just as natural as the kitten hissing and spitting at you when you pick them up unannounced. It is a natural reaction for the kitten when it is startled. Do not worry about this as it will occur so be prepared, but it will also cease within a short period of time.

Exposed Isolation helps with the kitten and dog integration

Exposed isolation means just what it says: you want to isolate the cat in one area and the dog in another, yet have them both exposed so that they can see and stiff at each other. A great way to do this is to get a baby gate and separate the two animals on either side in a room. Your cat now enough area to roam free, as well as your dog. And when they get curious they will simply come closer to the gate and sniff each other out, slowly making friends.

Why can’t we all just get along

You have to realize that not all cats and dogs will get along no matter how much conditioning and training you involve them in. Some dogs have an increasingly high amount of predatory drive, depending on their breed.

You have to remember that dogs are hunters and have a natural instinct to chase. Before you consider purchasing a kitten it would be wise to do some research and ask specific questions about the type of breed of dog you have. An obvious example would be trying to bring a kitten into the house where an adult pitbull is living. It doesn’t take much common sense to know that this would be a mistake.

What Do You Want in a Performing Arts Summer Camps?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Hello all! My name is Ken and I own a performance training studio in Memphis, TN, that helps children and adults alike improve their talents. Each year, we host b/t 4 and 6 different themed summer camps for ages 6 - 14. These themes have varied from Broadway, to Pop Star, to Princess, to Hip Hop Dance Bootcamp to a Disney Camp.

This year, I’m wanting to do something a little different. I want to ask you, the parents of these students, what you and your child would like to see us offer in our 2009 Summer Camps. What do you suggest we do to create the funnest, most awesome camp ever! What activites would help make that camp not just enjoyable, but memorable? Keep in mind our camps will be for 3 or 4 hours a day and meet up Monday - Friday for a week, two weeks tops.

What camps would work best for you and your child? Do you like the Pop Star Camp? What about High School Musical? Broadway is a standard… should we continue to include that camp? Also, if there’s anyone brave enough to throw something out there that we haven’t considered before, please feel free to do so. To voice your opinion, please visit this site - Performing Arts Summer Camps and contact us with your thoughts via the email listed at the bottom of the page.

We appreciate your input and look forward to you joining us for our camps assuming you live in the Memphis area. Also, if you’re interested in finding out more about voice or dance lessons, please visit SingStudiosMemphis.com.
