Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations?

The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of gps yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. The Dilemmas of Retirement

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I have recently retired after holding down full-time jobs for more than 50 years and although this may sound like a good thing that I should be happy about now that I have the time to enjoy my Golden Years, I actually find that I’m bored stiff and have way too much time on my hands with absolutely nothing to do.

I have always appreciated boating and my first thought was that I would take the substantial funds we received from selling our house and then go looking at luxury yachts for sale. This idea proved to be a fun adventure and kept me occupied for a few months before I finally wised up and realized that I was way too old and inexperienced to handle one of those huge yachts by myself and just riding around in the dang thing while a Captain and crew did all of the driving seemed like it would quickly get as boring as sitting here all day in my den.

So, next I thought I should look in to sailing with a smaller boat as that would be something I could do by myself and the challenge of sailing sounded like it would keep me from getting bored.

I started looking for Galveston boat charters information and quickly discovered that I had to take a series of accredited sailing instruction courses before I would be allowed out on the water unsupervised. Well, this was sounding very much like going back to school and that certainly was not something that I was interested in doing so that particular great idea also got discarded.

Now this whole situation has seemed to have gone full circle as I’m giving serious thought to going back to work at least on a part time basis. I wouldn’t want to actually be employed by a company where I would have a boss and regular hours but might do OK as a self employed consultant working SEO services Houston.

I’m still not sure but at least this idea gives me something to think about and should keep me busy investigating for at least a few months.

Potty Training Ideas: Get Creative!

Many parents approach potty training with the same enthusiasm they would have for gum surgery; it’s a necessary evil to be tolerated. It doesn’t have to be all drudgery though if you use a little creativity to make it interesting for everyone.

When To Get Creative

Certainly, if you are already in the potty training process and things aren’t going especially well, getting creative is better than getting frustrated. You don’t have to wait until you’re at that point though. Using some creative ideas to introduce the potty training concept to your child can prevent resistance.

Introducing the Idea

If potty training is your child’s idea (or he thinks it is) the entire process becomes easier. A few thoughtfully planted comments about big kids using the potty and little kids wearing diapers can spark your child’s desire to be one of the big kids and have him asking you to help him learn to use the potty.

Creating Ownership

Let your child be part of the potty training advice  planning process. Take him shopping with you and let him choose his own big boy underwear and stickers to use on his potty training success chart if you use one.

Rewarding Success

Some parents are reluctant to give rewards for potty training success because they feel the child is only doing what he’s supposed to do anyway. Others have great success with potty training charts where a child places a sticker each time he uses the potty with a small reward being earned for every few stickers.

Rewarding children for good behavior reinforces the behavior. Rewards don’t have to be candy or snacks and are better if they aren’t. A trip to the park, an extra story at bedtime, special recognition for an accident-free day all work to motivate the child to do well again.

By spending a little time thinking of creative ways to potty train your child, you make the process more interesting and less of a chore for everyone.
